Hopeful Mindsets®

The Hopeful Mindsets Overview

The Hopeful Mindsets General Overview is a 90-minute video course that introduces hope and the Five Keys to SHINE Hope™ framework to help you create, maintain, and grow hope in your life. We give an overview of the framework, so you can then apply it to different areas of your life as opposed to looking at a specific issue through the framework of hope. As the courses are just short introductions, they won’t necessarily increase your hope, but they will give you a general sense of hope science and the skills necessary to start activating hope in your life.

This course is taught by Kathryn Goetzke, based on her knowledge of mental health and hope and her work to date, which has been featured around the world and published. It compiles knowledge she learned from her lived experience, and leading experts on hope, mindset, mental health, stress, positive psychology, business, communications, and more.

Did you know hopelessness is the single consistent predictor of suicide?

That it also predicts weapon-carrying on school property, violence, self-harm, addiction, and more? And that hopelessness impacts everyone? Yet when are we taught what hopelessness is or how to proactively manage it?

You also probably talk a lot about hope, yet do you know how to hope? Do you know hope is measurable, and predicts pretty much all positive outcomes in life (check out the research here)? I’m on a mission to ensure you do.

I, Kathryn Goetzke, created The Hopeful Mindsets Overview course to ensure all know how to identify hopelessness and use skills to activate hope. It isn’t a treatment for anxiety or depression; it is a course to give you a good idea of what hopelessness, is how to proactively manage it, and how to get to hope. It is a skill-based course, and as you increase hope, your likelihood for anxiety and depression decreases. This is just a taste of what it takes to hope. Incorporating the skills is up to you (and best if done with the people in your Nourishing Network).

Already hopeful?

I’d still love for you to take it anyway. Hopelessness impacts everyone at one time or another. Even if you are hopeful now, if you don’t know how you are hopeful, you may be negatively impacted by hopelessness in the future. But this course isn’t just about you; it’s also designed so that you can help us teach others. Hopelessness is at an all-time high, with over 50% of girls reporting that they feel persistent states of hopelessness. We can all use hope skills to activate hope in the our lives and the lives of people around us.

This course won’t make you hopeful, yet it will give you tools to hope. The work is up to you. It is based on my 25 years of experience in psychology, mental health, business, marketing, and branding, not to mention 51 years of lived experience of hopelessness. I’ve been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, eating disorders, and addiction, had a suicide attempt, and lost my dad to suicide at 18.

I am not a doctor, or a clinical Psychologist. This is a short course and is not intended to treat anything. Yet it is intended to educate, so that you have tools to proactively manage despair and helplessness. It is a start.

I’ve been in recovery 18 years and have been managing my own mental health through the skills I teach. Proactively. Daily. Hourly. Even by the second (90 seconds, to be exact).

We’ve developed a mnemonic, the Five Keys to SHINE Hope™, to make it easier to remember. We teach Stress Skills, Happiness Habits, Inspired Actions, Nourishing Networks, and Eliminating Challenges. This is an overview course; it doesn’t go deep into each individual skill, yet it does give you a foundational understanding of our work.
